Description

[update: successful microscopy on
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/80022823 from another location is a good match for P. oliviae. The specimen and habitat seem identical.]

On very wet wood inches from a mountain stream. Habitat is mostly conifers (primarily Pseudotsuga menziesii/ Doug fir and Tsuga heterophylla/ Western hemlock).

Microscopy in photos from interior of cup. Unable to find anything that is clearly an ascus [update: fatter granular content filled tubes did not show any apparent spores, but are probably immature asci]. Mounting in Melzer's reagent yielded the same results, nothing obviously amyloid. Fruit bodies are 7 mm tall, 5-6 mm wide.

These were all growing within about 10'-15' of each other around and among a fallen log and woody debris near the Rogue River in Oregon. I think they are all the same species. Could they be in the genus Armillaria?
