Description

Ethnobotanical Uses: The berry juices have natural pectin and is can be made into jelly or wine. The roots were often used for making dye, primarily in basket making. Indigenous peoples of British Columbia used the berries of the plant as a blood purifier because it is believed to be good for the blood as well as cleanses the liver.
The roots were made into a tea to help the reproductive system and help to deliver the placenta during childbirth. The tea has also been noted as being used to help treat gonorrhoea and syphilis. The plant root also has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, Cholagogue, hepatic, and laxative properties. The bark has antimicrobial properties which is beneficial for healing wounds and abrasions.
