Suggestions don’t seem to fit well. It was about an inch long. The wings look really short. I was easily able to pick it up at which point it excreted a milky white substance.

This observation is for the larger black beetle. Perhaps Poecilochirus mites on its body? The mites were disturbed by the camera flash and retreated to the underside of the black beetle.
