Recently there have been three Northern Flickers in the picnic area. Mainly in the Walnut trees, east of the bathrooms. One is a male Red-shafted, one a female red-shafted, and one is a bit unusual. It appears to be a female, but with a red stripe at the nape of the neck. So possibly an intergrade female. Finally, I got a shot of the undertail when it was perched in a tall Walnut tree. From this shot it does appear to have a yelow tail. Not able to get a shot of the underside of the wings, however, so I suppose it could be an intergrade. Added a photo of the tree together feeding on the ground.
Spotted five individuals feeding at Low Tide while driving, parked, and walked a bit closer for attached photos. One bird kept glancing up into the sky (third photo) checking out for predators.
Underwing pattern is visible, I am just not super sure from this distance and lighting, but maybe someone knows. I think it should be identifiable, or at least highly suspectable.
A pair trading hoots and a stretching sort of display for quite a long time. Perhaps a mating ritual.
