Mixed woods. Post drought (10 days after rain).
Growing from a stump in a heavily pine dominated area. I only saw 1 substantial hardwood nearby. Two mushrooms growing from the same point. Cap does not appear to be 'brick red' in the center but more of an orangish brown. Could not detect a ring zone. Stem became paler as you go up it and was somewhat fibrous. Definitely not smooth stemmed like the nearby russula sp. Gills were a strange color. Like a grayish greenish bluish color. Attached to the stem somewhat notched. Gills close. No unusual odor. No apparent bruising on cap or stem. White mycellium. The younger specimens cap was slightly slimy when the debris was removed from atop it.
On the same log as Stereum complicatum. Dacrymyces chrysospermus is abundant in the area. I believe the log to be hardwood due to the presence of S. complicatum. Possibly tremella aurantia?
