I should know what kind of cactus this is, but I don't. After a meeting of LLELA iNaturalists, I am inspired to take more plant pictures, but plants are outside my area of expertise. You are seeing my attempts at good plant identification photography, practiced on this obliging cactus. Taken on a cool,dry morning just before sunrise.

Observed at approximately 7:10 AM on a cool morning just during sunrise. This heron stood on that rock for several minutes, then flew away just after I took this photo with my phone.
