Even those trees planted in a parking lot to provide some shade once they mature are important to wildlife and certainly in the case of birds. Great-tailed Grackles organized themselves late in the day in and around a pair of planted parking lot oak trees compliments of your local grocery store.
Image 1: Male, prancing and calling from atop a brand new shiny red pickup truck parked next to the pair of planted parking lot oak trees.
Image 2: Female, foraging for food on the grassy knoll below the pair of parking lot oak trees.
Image 3: The fledgling from its oak tree perch calling for food and more food of its mother who made three trips to feed its progeny inside of 20 minutes.

A mated pair of House Finches made their nest behind and/or inside the commodious plastic commercial sign of a nearby business. Heard their song first and spotted the pair after. The male is represented in this observation.
On January 1st Cheryl and I attended a judicial function in Houston that she had been invited to. I figured that if we were going all the way to Houston, might as well spend a day along the upper Texas coast on January 2nd, so we did that. The weather was not the best (understatement!) with precipitation almost all day ranging from light drizzle at times to moderate steady rain at times. It was also quite dark and windy most of the time, so photography was not the best. Still managed to take some shots though some (many) of them are of poor quality due to the weather conditions. Still, a day afield in Texas is always a joy!
Lots of folks hate ragweed, but these birds LOVE it! I watched several birds eating the seeds of ragweed. Other birds were flying around the perch pond as well. :)
On the way to lunch, I spotted a few birds and almost got ok shots of a few. :-/
Kinglets don't sit still. Trying to capture one with my affordable camera can be challenge. I did catch this one in a bit of acrobatics.
