Had a lot to do in the office today, so I just had time to walk to the restroom and observe some nature on the path.
Just Chilling
He finished eating and just sat there for a long time, looking around. You can see a tiny bit of suet on the tip of the beak. Didn't leave until a dove tried to land on it.
Today it was brutally hot at work -- so hot that the dragonflies were even resting! :)

Pretty nice weather today, so as I was walking to the restroom, I noticed a few neat critters. :)
A murder at Cedar Hill State Park!
Yes, those are thorns.
Photos taken from my back porch.
When runoff pushes lake levels above normal, water rises into an area behind my house that the city normally keeps mowed. This fleeting are of open, shallow water draws wading birds like a magnet!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
This iridescent little fly was on my bee balm. I was able to get it identified to the genus level, a genus that was new to me. Also that it is a female. Females have a tail in the form of concentric cones. Males have a rounded tail. I have one other view that I'll add that shows this. Is it possible to get a species identification?

Posing outside my window on my fountain
3 photos from when just the male mallard was in my yard.
Photo 1: This is one of the pair of mallards that decided to visit my yard this summer. He had just finished taking a bath in my fountain.
Photo 2: Guess my grass was a little high right then. Not sure what he was finding.
Photo 3: Photo taken right before my mallard visitor started exploring behind the hedges. I love how his head changes colors depending on where the light hits it.
Pretty Girl
One of the pretty female cardinals that hang out in my yard. The coloration of her beak makes me think that she is one of the recent juveniles, grown up.
