Varying colours and sizes from 8mm to 20mm approx.
I observed at least 10 in one area 3m x 3m around a log and on the sand and a further 10 or so under the wharf not far from this area.
No mating or spawning observed.
Depth 4 m
8 degrees.

Second observation on iNat in South Island, the other was in Milford Sound.
Two were observed, one larger than the other.
6m depth.
My dive guide said they were seen often.
cf. pita. One small one on a thecate hydroid. Lots of the hydroid around but I only saw this and one separate mass of eggs.
~3mm long
~2m subtidal
Quite a few around spawning on and around the yellow sponges.
Our first look at a juvenile one. It was on the sand at about only 2m depth.
Approx. 35mm.
Between 2 to 3 mm.
3 m depth.
13 degrees
On old encrusted metal beam lying on the sandy substrate under the wharf.
There were at least 10 + on these hydroids growing on the clump of sea tulips.
The Doto were laying eggs and all the ones I saw had the brown speckling markings on them as per @apteryx54 observation on 23.5.2023.

I didn't get as good as photos as Richard there was a current and were hydroids in the way but still am posting observation for recording.
There are two in the last photo laying eggs, one on each frond the back one is upside down.
Very happy to find this one. The vis was really bad still from rain so I was only searching in the shallows.
I dove down to take pics of a gold-margined nudi on a sponge and caught this one in the corner of my eye on the same sponge. Pretty lucky.
At one point I had lost it, but it had just moved to something with less contrast, which just shows how easily they can be missed if they aren't obvious.
~1cm long
~2m subtidal
Group of them between 5mm and 10mm spawning on a wharf pylon.
4 m depth.
35mm at 5 m depth.
