A man was standing up to his thighs in the water, wondering whether to dive in or not. I wondered if I should point out the eagle ray, not because he was likely to tread on it, but if your shadow falls on it, it zooms off with a sandy flourish which could be a bit alarming, so I did. It swam past the man to the other side then came up and had a look at me but I was a bit slow to whip out the camera.

Reasonably common on some parts of the low calcrete substrate close to shore on the northern side of Syngnathid Hotspot. (Which is an area where once grew mainly seagrasses in my youth and up till very roughly 3 decades ago).
