UPDATE I apologize for the poor quality photo and shooting towards the sun and I was hiking with my daughter on my shoulders when I saw this Caracara flying by and didn't have my iPhone handy. Of course the blurred image only hints at the noticeable underside of the head and white tail with black tips like the wing tips. This was one of two the second flying low just above a tree line trailing the one in the photo. They seem to be appearing around the same time of year in this particular area.
April, 2016 Second time in a month I've seen a Caracara flying around the park. Trying to get good shot of it but it won't stop and pose.

The farthest south I have seen this species in Michigan in my life, and the first I've seen alive in Kent Co. (several years ago I found a carcass at the Knapp St. boat launch at the Grand River, which may have been transported in the grill of a car or otherwise). A week after this observation I found a Porcupine den less than 1 mile from this location, showing at least some live in the Rogue River SGA.
