Description

I am struggling with these white lymantriinae as usual. It seems most like Urocoma (Euproctis) panabra, but doesn't neatly fit any species for one reason or another, morphologically or geographically. Acyphas semiochrea
All Bold specimens are from Tasmania with one from WA
Only BOLD specimen from WA (from south) is all white in antennae and abdomen.[https://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Public_RecordView?processid=ANICE366-10]
None of the BOLD specimens that can show the abdomen show any orange on the abdomen and most show dark antennae eg [https://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Public_RecordView?processid=ANICE398-10]

Urocoma (Euproctis) panabra
Only specimens on BOLD and iNaturalist are from east coast. The following notes are mainly from @vicfazio3 notes on various postings so apologies to Vic if I have misinterpreted:
Satiny, sparkly finish
Orange-tinged ‘hair-like’ scales (mine lacks these unless the orangey abdomen scales were longer originally)
Orange-tinted antennae
Orange tinge to abdomen (this does not seem to show on BOLD specimens, just the orange tail)
Orange tinge to inside of forelegs

Vic mentioned on one of @dustaway postings in relation to this species “Working through the white tussocks ... Acyphas / Euproctis / Urocoma, I am guessing the ID separation here has to do with the two-toned shaded look effected by the silvery outer border of the forewing? If so, foreshadowed but the latin name. Panambra = penumbra ... referencing a shadow cast by an opaque object or a partially shaded outer region.”

Acyphas chionitis
All white
Only specimens on BOLD are from east coast

Larva was found on a non-indigenous Eucalyptus sideroxlyon on 14/2/2021. As can be seen in the images a remarkable structure was constructed with the frass. The orginal structure was then abandonded and the larva had built a new one on 21/2/2021. By 26/2/2021 a pupa was formed and the adult emerged on the 13/3/2021.

Description

Appears quite similar to Thallarcha pellax with a few subtle differences in the black markings on the forewings, unsure if this specimen is just showing some variation within that species. T. pellax has also not been recorded in SA before on iNat, the ALA or BOLD. Unfortunately I don't have the picture but the hindwings were similar to those of T. pellax although the darker colouration continues further along the outer margins when compared to the images of T. pellax shown in MoV vol. 2.
Wingspan 20mm
Any further input would be much appreciated !
