Description
Was spotted using its powerful mandibles to dig into the root of a large oak tree. There was tree sap everywhere and countless small ants running around so it’s unknown whether the specimen was feeding on the ants or the sap itself. Looks to be a male, measured about 2 inches in length. I could easily fit my finger in between its two mandibles.
