Description

Q = (3.5) 3.54 - 4.4 (4.5) ; N = 10
Me = 6 × 1.5 µm ; Qe = 4
Paraphyses lanceolate, without VBs.
Marginal hairs thick-walled, with crystals at the top, 1(-2) septate.

Pileus white to grey, smooth with a "frosty" appearance, inrolled margin. Lamellae white, crowded to close, broadly attached. Stipe short, equal, finely flocculate with white mycelial projections at the base

Single to gregarious in soil under shrubs – rose, dogwood etc. near Quercus, Pseudotsuga, + unidentified smaller hardwood

Cap – < 3.7 cm diam., sub-acute conical; hygrophanous; reddish-ochre at first, drying to ochraceous-buff; smooth, lubricous,

Gills – deeply notched but attached; close; pale orange-ochre, sub-serrate edges;

Stipe – < 10.0 cm tall x 0.8 cm wide; dry; striate to grooved; no annulus; deeply rooting.

Micro – spores ~ 5-7 × 3-3.5, oblong, white, smooth, inamyloid

Description

Found growing terrestrially?(possibly from buried dead Aspen) next to the Truckee River near the West shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, CA. Appear to be Cerioporus squamosus or similar which are not supposed to occur this far west. They do not appear to be one of the Polyporus species which do occur here.

John Marquis wrote me about where to find this species back in 2010, and he got a photograph of these same plants in full bloom on 20 August 2010.

@leptonia independently found these exact plants 14 years later, growing at the bottom of the same rock! See:

In all our surveys at SnJt, we've only found this species in three spots, all in the same general area.

Description

San Vicente Redwoods- Mixed hardwood/conifer forest that burned in the 2020 CZU fire
Growing on the side of trail in burnt soil in an area of high severity burn dominated by early successional Eriodictyon californicum and Ceanothus
Rusty orange, strongly hygrophanous pileus. Lamellae light orange/brown becoming darker in age, finely serrate, narrowly attached to notched to broadly attached. Stipe becoming slightly enlarged at base, fibrous, twisted in some specimens, covered in delicate white fibrils that easily come off, giving it a "frosted" appearance

Description

Fruiting in a tangle of hawthorn near the quartermaster harbor. 50+ fruiting bodies. Extremely viscid all over. Caps displaying the “windows” hence “Gliophorus fenestrata” or whatever.

Caps orange-red to yellow with darker striations. lightening around cap margin. VERY stick and viscid. planar to convex. 1.5-3cm diameter

Gills adnexed - subdecurrent, creamy yellow to pink

stipes yellow and marbled. very slippery and sticky. 4.5-7cm long. 0.25-0.5cm wide.

no smell or taste at all

Description

Hygrocybe fenestrata - the skinny yellow kind. Seen this type on Hygrocybe hill but different from the one at squaxin and on Maury island

Fruiting from dirt bank near a cedar and a patch of H. flavescens.

caps slimy/viscid but not as much as the more red-orange H. fenestrata, which feels like a Gliophorus or H. flavescens. caps yellow-light yellow.. translucent-striate. whit on cap margin. 1.6-2.7cm diameter

yellow-white gills medium spaced, broadly attached to notched,

stipes sort of viscid, but more on the moist side. the largest fruit had a nearly dry stipe. pure white with the subtlest of yellow blush.

0.2-0.4cm thick
4.3-9.2cm long
