On blackberry.
I’ve seen as many as six on the same Rubus at once. There’s at least 1/4 acre of rubus alone on which to feed. So this species must be friendly since they’re not social bees.

I think most likely a masked bee but couldn’t get a great photo in the light. The bottom part was a reddish brown that really stood out against the white flowers.

Today the bats didn't come out until 16 minutes after sunset, and it took even longer for them to get close. That means no color in these photos, unfortunately. Perhaps this gives a better idea of snout/ear shape though? Presumably the same species as https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/202484027

Description
A petal-cutting sequence: she cut a neat strip from one of the petals of Oenothera macrocarpa. Unfortunately, I came along after most of the work had already been accomplished.
The first image is not in focus, but some of the subsequent shots are fairly sharp. I never got an image of dorsal tergum 6, so identification may be complicated; for what it's worth, notice that tergum 6 is clearly concave (note the "tail" visible in the first 3 images). There are also shots that give a surprising amount of detail about the dentation of the mandibles and the structure of the tarsi.

Watched 2-3 of them for a while - VERY tiny insects - entering tunnels in the dirt, disappearing under detritus (presumably into hidden holes), occasionally flying around – all within the soil of a potted plant. (Taxus sp.)
