Update. Moved geo location from point of photograph to actual location of organism determined by triangulation and shadows in Google Earth imagery time frames, and information visible in photograph.

Did not notice it while there but found it in this image. It is low left of center in the full image. May be the northern most "wild" observation in iNat if confirmed!?

Description

Note the size perspective offered by @greglasley in front of this massive tree. This is an isolated grove of this species, apparently the only such grove known in the wild in Texas.

Dolan Falls Preserve is owned by The Nature Conservancy and is not open to the public. Access is through special permission only. The preserve is adjacent to Devil's River State Natural Area, which is open to the public on a restricted schedule.

36" tall x 48" wide. This haystack is the largest I saw, among several other good-sized plants visible or visited within 40-50 yards. Extreme steepness and uneven, rocky terrain here probably hides many more haystacks, large and small.
