An early bloomer even for this species. Probably one of the better places to see this local color form of Callirhoe involucrata as they are prolific in the fields east of Camp Tejas. I walked by many a rosette during the afternoon only to finally catch one blooming in the evening on the way back.

Note the involucel (additional bracts below the sepals) in the second photo, which distinguishes this species from other Callirhoe in the area.

Well....how embarrassing!!! I fly in here to score a few sunflower seeds and you take my picture and here I am, in the middle of a postnuptial molt and I've lost all my head feathers! Even my ear openings are visible. Quite rude of you to do this. Wait for 2 months and I'll look super again!!!
