No idea how to tell the difference between Hercules Club (Zanthoxylum clava-herculis) and Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum hirsutum) - I found this in KEW Science - Plants of the World Online - "Zanthoxylum hirsutum Buckley
This is a synonym of Zanthoxylum clava-herculis subsp. fruticosum (A.Gray) Reynel"

My wife, Cheryl, was working out in our yard and found this caterpillar in the leaf litter under a Redbud tree. Inat ID algorithm suggests Henry's Elfin. I know that one of the host plants of that species is Redbud and in past years I have found adults in that same tree. I'll go with that ID unbless/until someone says different. Thanks. Images show the caterpillar on the end of the finger of a leather glove

On January 1st Cheryl and I attended a judicial function in Houston that she had been invited to. I figured that if we were going all the way to Houston, might as well spend a day along the upper Texas coast on January 2nd, so we did that. The weather was not the best (understatement!) with precipitation almost all day ranging from light drizzle at times to moderate steady rain at times. It was also quite dark and windy most of the time, so photography was not the best. Still managed to take some shots though some (many) of them are of poor quality due to the weather conditions. Still, a day afield in Texas is always a joy!
